Milton, Connie. “CSI, CODIS, and DNA Technology: How can Law Enforcement make the        most of this Powerful Crime Fighting Tool?” Journal of California Law  Enforcement 40.3 (2006): 15-8. ProQuest. Web.

Connie Milton is works for law enforcement.  Her specialty is forensics; she currently is a Criminalist for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for their crime lab since 1996.  Her journal helps with the understanding of how technology is handling with forensics DNA analysis when working for the law enforcement agency.  She helps provide detail information on sample brought from the crime lab to help solve cases.  Having the technology to solve criminal cases not only from current times but also from previous years from when they didn’t have forensics opportunity at the time from the 1980s and before.  Her article helps the forensics field of DNA database that the police have had since the 1990s called CODIS.  The purpose of CODIS keeps track of criminal prints and also of evidence from crime scenes that can’t identify a specific person.  When DNA from a case that hasn’t been solved and a person that has been arrested go into the database and the person matches the DNA, it becomes a ‘hit’ for the police because they made a breakthrough for a case that didn’t get solved.  As previously stated, being in the law enforcement field, these people live their jobs everyday even when they are off.  They will try to solve a case and keep their community protected

The primary topic of this paper is to discuss when and how centralization and decentralization within a company are most effective and should be used, specifically referring to the Information Technology (IT) and Information Systems (IS) departments.  The form of rhetoric primarily used in the article is Logos and supported heavily by Ethos. The article was clearly sectioned out, the writing is straightforward and heavy with common terms taught in basic management classes. Pathos is not a factor due to the impartial nature of the subject. The goal was to provide several findings and things to keep in mind when restructuring an organization for efficiency and profitability.

07b-Rhetorical Analysis of an article from 07a-Ki.Lee

The article, “Electronic tax systems ease filing” was written by Gene DeLucia. This article was published through American City & County magazine. The magazine serves the powerful audience of city and state that provides readers with news about local government issues and trends. The American City & County magazine is credible because it has been providing state and local government issues since early 1900s. The purpose of this article is to transform the government agencies’ manual tax system to electronic ones. The article clarifies the benefits of using electronic tax system by referring the case of Cincinnati’s employer tax system. Cincinnati’s automated tax filing enables employers to process tax returns much faster and eliminates human error. The primary argument of this article is that tax filing is not typically convenient, easy or simple. Most systems used in tax filing are so antiquated that often leads most government agencies to make erroneous information. The author used logos because the author seems to persuade the readers by the use of reasoning. This article was published and appeared on American City & County magazine. Although this article was written in 2000, the article emphasizes the purpose of using electronic tax system in the modern accounting firms.

Lewis, Rena B. “Changes in Technology use in California’s Special Education Programs.” Remedial and Special Education 18.4 (1997): 233-42. ProQuest. 29 June 2015

In the article change in technology use in California’s special need education Rena Lewis talks about the study that showed the progress in using computer technology in a school system particularly in California special need education program in the 1990s. The study was done by participating two groups in the system.  Special education administrators and special need teachers who uses technology for instruction purposes. The result suggested that computers and other technologies made more available for instructors and  administrator so that the students can have technology uses built in their individualized education program. Although school  administrator and teachers are excited about the use of technology because they have seen how helpful and effective it was, there are still difficulties in the process of implementing. Lewis’s argument is based on comparing two studies that was conducted in the 80s and 90s. Since the time when the original research was conducted, there have been several major changes happened that changed  the ways in which technology is used in programs for students with disabilities. The dramatic increase in hardware capability was the big part to make the use of technology for instructional Purposes. However, the five evidence that was discussed in the article how this change happened are: schools started to provide more and more computers and other technologies, introducing the technology to the students with disability, the adoption of computer was going on even if there was issues in the leadership, schools in California started to incorporate technology into instruction on a large-scale and there has been a significant philosophical change concerning appropriate school placement for students with disabilities. This article is credible because it is the journal of counteractive and Special Education  and it appeals to those in the special education program .

V.V Arutynov is the author of “Cloud Computing: It’s History of Development, Modern State, and Future Consideration”. This paper was published by Spring Science and Business Media in July 2012. In this article, the author describes the history of cloud computing and its model as well as the advantage and disadvantage of cloud computing. According to the author, the world become more depends upon on the Internet. From 2005 to 2011, almost 2 billion people were using the Internet. Author emphasis that Russian school and universities need to start teaching about “Modern innovative technologies” related courses. That includes cloud computing, semantic technologies, massively parallel computing platform as well as innovative technologies. So that country have sufficient number of high tech people. The increase of Internet, there are more cloud computing technologies in the market. This article was published in 2012 when cloud computing was rapidly growing. The Author wants to focus the audience about its model and advantage and disadvantage. According to the author, cloud computing is  “a technology of data processing where computer resources and capacity are provided to the user as an Internet services”. In this technology, users have access his/her data from anywhere through the internet, but they do not concern about the infrastructure, software about the services. John Mc Cathy was the founder of clouded computing and he introduced this concept in 1960, but it gain the popularity from 2007.Today there are many companies offers the cloud services.  For example, google doc, drop box, Microsoft one drive and many more. The main purpose of this article is to provide the enough information on the field of cloud computing. The author uses a lot of references to support his ideas, that  helps to the audience to get accurate information.  Normally, there are five basic model of cloud computing. These are: infrastructure as a Service, platform as a Service, software as a Service, data as a Service, • workplace as a Service.

The authors provide the factual data to convince the audience. For example author defines the model of clouds computing is clearly. In IaaS model, most of the hardware equipment owns the service provider and maintains it. In this service, the consumer cannot control networking components but they can control operating System, virtual storage and application. The service provider can maintain and manage the Physical and virtual components of cloud such as the server, network, and operating system. In PaaS model “where consumers are able to use infrastructure for the installation of base software in order to use new or previously existing applications (consumer –created, developed on order, or acquired packaged applications)” (Arutynov, 2012). In SaaS model, the provider provides application upon consumer demand basis. Consumers are not worried about maintenance, setup and installation to run the application. The cloud computing provider does that all the jobs .In this model includes Email, Google Drive, Drop Box, Microsoft Office 365 and many more applications. The authors establish his credibility by using a lot of citation on this article. In conclusion, by using logic, fact and details the author provide clear information about the cloud computing to convince the audience.

“Technologies Used In Accounting Education: A Study Of Frequency Of Use Among Faculty” by Nas Ahadiat.

Nas Ahadiat is a professor at Accounting Department of California State Polytechnic University of Pomona, California. He devoted many years of his professioanal life to research and study of accounting discipline in connection with other fields, such as technology, management, ethics, government an so on. Among his published articles we can find works on management accounting education, technologies used in accounting education, internal control in federal government, and issue of ethics in accounting.

The article is published in Journal of Education For Business in 2008, therefore assuming and suggesting for the interested party to be from the field of finance, business, accounting, law, and education. The author provides a research on technologies used in the modern accounting education, and the topic itself intends to attract the audience that is connected to informational technologies as well. The journal is on the market to this day and it is a highly creditable source that includes only peer reviewed articles in it.

The topic of the article is based on the research of extremely wide variety of technologies used in education nowadays. But the primary question the author works on is which of this technologies should be used to make the study more efficient. Professor Ahadiat answers the question by leading a thorough study case among 800 participants from all the 50 states. He concludes that rapidly expanding technological advances are driving a new instructional paradigm – the transition from physical to virtual learning environments. And although faculty may choose technology on the basis of their personal preferences, its appropriateness and relevance to the curricula is of paramount importance. He proves his work by analyzing the results of the data collected from the tests between different social groups (age, gender, area of teaching and so on). Thus in most of his work the author uses logos rhetorical appeal with support of facts, figures, and case studies.

The article appears in the third issue of Journal of Education For Business published in Washington. The reason for choosing this source for the author`s work is that the journal attracts a wide audience of various professions interconnected between each other. The year of 2008 is associated with an economic crisis, which eventually influenced all areas of the social and public life. Accounting reacts on external financial changes in a significant way, therefore the topic that Professor Ahadiat brought in the article was just a matter of that time.

“Developing And Effectiveness Of The Computer Assisted Instruction In Programming Languages Base On Android Tablets Devices” by Satien Janpla

Professor Janpla did not include a discussion section in his article where he discusses his qualifications in-depth. In the article’s heading, he briefly mentions that he is a Computer Science professor in Bangkok, Thailand. This is not an excellent explanation however, and Janpla fails to ever elaborate on his field of study or further establish his credibility.

The audience the article is attempting to reach, is mainly anyone interested in computer science, technology, or IT work. It is written fairly plainly, so most people who desire to learn more about the subject will be able to. The journal it was published in, the “Journal of Theoretical and Applied Information Technology”, has been in publication for ten years, and is internationally referenced.

The primary topic of the article, is questioning the affect of modern day IDE’s assisted instruction in a learning environment. Many IDEs have little tidbits and tools, that provide hints as to how to write the code. Programming languages have a finite set of rules and words that can be used in their syntax, so the IDEs can provide suggestions and aid in some cases, to help the programmer. The article is questioning the long-term educational affect of this type of assistance. A study was done in order to fully question this hypothesis. The study seems credible, as they had people take pre-tests in order to establish a baseline area of knowledge, and then use the IDEs assisted instruction to help the programmers learn. They explain their research methodology, and then explain their research statical data. It is almost entirely an argument revolving around logos. The topic in question involves testing, the analysis of data, and comparing numerical results.

The journal it was published in was the “Journal of Theoretical and Applied Information Technology”, giving further reason to believe the intended audience was certainly technically-literate. Professor Satien likely decided to publish his article in this particular journal because it is a highly credited journal, under publication for a decade.

07b-Rhetorical Analysis of an article from 07a, David F.

“How Invention Begins” was written by John H. Lienhard. He has written several pieces on different inventions. He was a professor at Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering and History at the University of Houston. He has his Ph.d and is credible because he has devoted a good portion of his life exploring the history of inventions. The primary argument of this book and its thesis is that a single person does not create a big invention. What he means by big invention is something that alters or changes the course of human history. Such as the Steam engine or the Car. He argues that these inventions come due to the availability of technology and many minds coming together with great ideas. It also talks about the beginning of inventions and how people come up with Ideas. It also further helps us understand the process one goes through when coming up with great inventions. He traces inventions back in history and how ideas could have came about. He is writing about this topic because he would like his audience to have a deeper understanding on how things are invented and that these ideas are not created from nothing. I believe he uses ethos, pathos, and logos to get his point across. He speaks factual and also adds emotion. I believe that his audience is anyone who would like to explore the notion or creation of inventions.
